One of the best spring sports seasons in the history of Pella High School came to an end on Friday afternoon when the No. 3 Lady Dutch soccer team fell to No. 1 Waverly-Shell Rock 3-1 at semifinals of the state tournament.
Pella's Grace Held won a one-on-one possession near the net to give Pella an early 1-0 lead, but the Go-Hawks' attack became stiff and sharp, scoring before halftime to tie 1-1 and four minutes in the middle 2 -1. A late penalty kick as the weather calmed down froze it for Waverly-Shell Rock.
Head coach Mark Howard tells KNIA / KRLS Sports that it was a tough day for Lady Dutch, as the combination of speed and physical appearance of Go Hawks was hard to beat.
