One of the best spring sports seasons in the history of Pella High School came to an end on Friday afternoon when the No. 3 Lady Dutch soccer team fell to No. 1 Waverly-Shell Rock 3-1 at semifinals of the state tournament.

Pella’s Grace Held won a one-on-one possession near the net to give Pella an early 1-0 lead, but the Go-Hawks’ attack became stiff and sharp, scoring before halftime to tie 1-1 and four minutes in the middle 2 -1. A late penalty kick as the weather calmed down froze it for Waverly-Shell Rock.

Head coach Mark Howard tells KNIA / KRLS Sports that it was a tough day for Lady Dutch, as the combination of speed and physical appearance of Go Hawks was hard to beat.

Pella finishes with his seventh final among the first four in the state tournament and a record of 14-3. They say goodbye to the elderly Erica Bossard, Kara Wichhart, and Maddie Canfield.
